Nowadays, many people struggle with this addiction. Smokers know best that it is not easy to quit because the body is already addicted and constantly craves for nicotine. Fortunately, there is a herb that can help you win this battle.
Stevia is a plant that has been used as a natural sweetener for many years. It originally comes from Paraguay and it is considered to have antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-microbial, antiseptic, anti-hypertensive, and anti-glycemic ingredients.
Additionally, all of the above-mentioned properties may help in treating the following health conditions: heartburn, obesity, indigestion, fatigue, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, hair loss and dandruff, bacterial infections, cold, flu, and many different skin issues.
Furthermore, stevia may boost the immune system and energy, improves mental activity, and stops cravings for alcohol and nicotine. It can be found in three forms: e leaf, liquid, and green or white powder.
Quit Smoking Using Stevia
If you want to quit smoking all you need to do is apply a few drops of stevia on your tongue whenever your body craves for nicotine, and these urges will disappear. Plus, you can plant it in your garden since it is easy to look after it, so you’ll have the solution near you all the time.
How to Grow Stevia?
It is of great importance to know that the stevia plant needs sun and cannot be sustained in very cold conditions. Nevertheless, in zone 9 and warmer, its root can survive and grow again in spring. It may also survive in zone 8, but it will need protection.
All you need to do, in order to have stevia at home, is to take 12-inch containers and plant it in a high-quality potting soil. Keep it in direct sunlight, and water it whenever the surface is dry.
Make sure that the plant has 18-inches of free space and use loamy, loose, and well-drained soil. Depending on the growing season, it can grow 1 to 3 feet high. Use Bonnie Herb and Vegetable Plant Food or compost according to the instructions given on the label.
Stevia doesn’t like soggy soil, so drainage is essential, or else it will rot. If it continues wilting after being watered, it means that the root is probably rotten.
Other important information you should know is related to harvest and storage. Stevia blooms in fall and that’s why you should trim off the leaves so that new ones can grow. You can dry the trimmed off leaves in the sun, which will take only a day. Then collect them and put them in a closed tight container before they become useless.
How to Make Homemade Water Based Stevia Extract?
All you need is a half cup of dried stevia leaves and one cup of water. Put the water into a small pan and bring it to a simmer (do not boil). Add the dried leaves, mix, and remove from heat. Cover the pan and leave it for 40 minutes. Strain out the leaves and put the mixture into a jar, cover it, and keep it in your fridge for two weeks at most.
